The first singer to have a Number One single in the US without a recording contract, Lisa Loeb has since proven that she is no one-hit wonder with fifteen albums to her credit. While still an undergraduate at Brown University, Loeb formed the band Liz and Lisa with classmate Elizabeth Mitchell, releasing two albums together, then created the band Nine Stories after her graduation in 1990. In 1994, her friend Ethan Hawke chose to use her song “Stay” in the credits of his hit film Reality Bites, catapulting her single to the top of the charts. She released her debut album, Tails, the following year. Her album Feel What U Feel won the Grammy for Best Children’s Album in 2018 and in 2020 she released her album A Simple Trick To Happiness. To raise money for The Actors Fund, she and over 100 other Brown alums then co-wrote and co-produced the zoom musical Together Apart, which was covered by outlets such as The New York Times, Vanity Fair, People, and Playbill. Known for her distinctive look, Loeb launched a signature line of eyeglasses in 2010. She has also published two children’s books to tie in with children’s albums she released. Passionate about summer camp from her own childhood experiences, she created the Camp Lisa Foundation for underprivileged children in 2009. In 2015, the American Camp Association of New England threw a gala in Fenway Park and named her its Camp Champions Honoree. As of 2023, she hosts her own weekday SiriusXM show, “Stay with Lisa Loeb,” providing behind-the-scenes accounts of the 90s world of music and interviewing fellow icons of the time.
