Enid Shapiro
In memoriam
From Idit Klein and Jordan Namerow
Enid, we will always remember you with joy!
she was a passionate supporter of LGBTQ rights and a pillar in the Boston Jewish community. Enid battled cancer for more than 20 years, but she had a limitless reservoir of energy; so much energy that she traveled to Kenya and India in her 80s and 90s!
the importance of building lifelong relationships.
her insatiable curiosity, commitment to social justice, and her friendship.
About 10 years ago, she persuaded me to illegally park on a very busy street during a snowstorm so I could run into an ice cream shop to buy her chocolate ice cream. "I'll stay in the car," she said. "Nothing will happen." I returned with her cone to find two police cars, sirens flashing, surrounding my illegally parked sedan. But Enid wasn't fazed. She was happily schmoozing with two cops. "We're having a lovely chat!" she announced. She explained to the cops that I had done a mitzvah by buying her ice cream and asked them not to write me a ticket. It worked. The cops were charmed and I was, too. Enid always found a way to connect with people even in the most unlikely circumstances.
