Laurie Schwab Zabin
Laurie Schwab Zabin was born on April 1, 1926, in New York City. Laurie earned her BA from Vassar College, her MA from Harvard University, and her doctorate from Johns Hopkins. After marrying her first husband in 1948 the couple moved to Baltimore and had three children, the couple later divorced and in 1963 Laurie married James Zabin. Laurie worked and was associated with Planned Parenthood for three decades, taught at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, was the founding director of the Gates Institute, and is an international expert on adolescent pregnancy, abortion, and sexual behavior.
In this interview Laurie touches on the intersection of adolescence sexual education with politics, economics, population, and even the environment. Laurie shares the various international projects she has been involved with along with attending United Nations meetings relating to sexual behavior. Laurie expresses some of her frustrations with administrations in both the United States and other countries with instituting family planning and adolescent sexual education.
