Scope and Content Note

Richard talks about his family history and background in the Boston area. He grew up in an Orthodox community and cherishes the formation and education he received through his Jewish education. He talks about his early musical influence, playing the violin, and training at the New England Conservatory of Music. Richard traces his career path from law school to practicing lawyer and partner at his law firm. He recalls his experiences during Hurricane Katrina. Luckily, his home was not damaged by the storm, but his neighborhood was hit hard. The family evacuated to Lafayette and ended up in Austin, Texas, for four months. Following Katrina, Richard and his wife were motivated to be more active in the Jewish community. They joined Touro Synagogue and are involved on the Jewish Community Day School board. Finally, Richard reflects on the musical culture of New Orleans and how Jews add to the fabric of the community.
