Plaque Honoring Ladies' Sewing Society of Hebrew Orphan Society
It was during the 1893 World's Fair that the National Council of Jewish Women was founded. One of the central goals of the council was to promote social activism. But, as this plaque from the fair honoring the New York City "Ladies' Sewing Society of Hebrew Orphan Society" shows, there were already local organizations dedicated to ameliorating social problems among the Jewish populations.
