"Molly Picon's Parade," Fan Mail from Samuel Perlmutter, October 11, 1940
A fan letter from Samuel Perlmutter to Yiddish theater and film star Molly Piccon (1898-1992), on the subject of her October 8, 1940 show.
The letters reads:
"Molly Picon's Parade
Ive [sic] heard program's [sic] that are alright.
Yours of Oct [sic] 8, 1940 sure was a delight.
I was thrilled, from head to feet.
Enjoying your program, from a front row seat.
Give your new Filly Appleknish [sic]
Blonde and dressed gayly.
Credit in trying to beat Mr Williams sing Ali Ali.
This is all written, you know in fun
And I'm not trying to be kidish.
If Mr Williams will give me a lesson or two.
In my mother tongue Yiddish.
That part of your program, is always fine.
When I hear you sing.
KEN-MEN-GLICK-LACH-ZINE.
In a world of struggle and strife
Molly Picon does a swell job, dramatizing
I give you your life.
With my cup of Maxwell House coffee, I can sing.
Knowing each Tuesday night will bring.
Another Molly Picon parade.
For any good thing, I'd walk a mile.
For Molly Picon's parade
Give me W.M.C.A. first on your dial.
Yours truly,
Samuel Perlmutter"
