The doll on the left was produced in a limited edition of 500 in honor of Beatrice Alexander's 100th birthday. In reference to the earlier version of the doll, Alexander said in 1982, "I have been asked to do a doll of myself for many years now, but in my faith (Jewish) it is not considered good luck to name someone after a living person, and I have applied this to my dolls also. My husband did not want me to do a doll of myself, but my daughter Mildred talked me into it. She said, 'Mother, do a doll of yourself and donate the profits from it to charity.' So I have overlooked the superstitions because the sale of a doll of myself will allow me to do more charity work."
