STEM is an initiative to improve the teaching of science, technology, engineering and math. Over the years, it has attracted many more boys than girls. Janna Kaplan noticed that although her daughter and other young girls showed some interest in science and math, their school’s curriculum was more likely to appeal to boys. She was determined to encourage girls to participate.
