Laura Yaros

Laura Yaros received a B.A. with specialization in translation in 1988 from Concordia University in Montreal, where she graduated with distinction. She currently works as a certified translator and is also in the process of completing her master’s degree in Yiddish literature. She has received awards on two occasions for her translation work. Her principal area of interest is translation into English of Yiddish literature written by women.

Miriam Raskin

After participating in the 1905 Russian Revolution and immigrating to New York, Miriam Raskin wrote about the lives of ordinary, young Jewish women who defied convention and joined revolutionary movements. She published three books, a serialized novel, and numerous short stories in various periodicals. She was praised for her ability to “paint” vibrate pictures of her characters’ lives.
