Harold Troper

Harold Troper is a professor in the Department of Theory and Policy Studies at the University of Toronto where he teaches on the history of immigration and inter-group relations. He has been honored with a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, the American Jewish Book Award and the Sir John A. Macdonald Prize for the best book published in Canadian history. His books include Immigrants: A Portrait of the Urban Experience (1975); None Is Too Many (1982); Old Wounds (1985); Friend or Foe? (1997); Ethnicity, Politics and Public Policy in Canada (1999) and The Ransomed of God (1999).

For almost 30 years (1973-2001), Judy either ransomed Syrian Jews (with donations made to the Dr Ronald Feld Fund for Jews in Arab Lands) or made extensive use of her underground network inside Syria to bring Syrian Jews across heavily guarded borders into either Lebanon or Turkey
