Judith Steiner-Freud, RN, MPH, came to Israel from Czechoslovakia in December 1939 and graduated from the Henrietta Szold Hadassah School of Nursing in Jerusalem in 1944. She received her bachelor’s degree in social education and a master’s degree in public health from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From 1944 she taught at the Hadassah School of Nursing, and in 1953 was appointed its deputy director. She ran the nursing school from 1967 to 1983 and in 1975 also served as the assistant dean of nursing in the faculty of medicine of Hadassah and the Hebrew University, when the nursing school was accredited as an academic institution. Steiner-Freud performed research and published papers in education, management and the history of nursing. She was active in the Israel Nurses’ Association and today serves as chair of the nursing school’s alumni association.
