Michelle Spinelli

Michelle Spinelli has a B.A. in English from Oberlin College and an M.A. in Women's History from Sarah Lawrence College. She has published in the area of women writers and reformers in the United States, as well as on the history and philosophy of “madness.” Currently, Spinelli is studying how the treatment of individuals with mental illness has changed over time in New York City, where she lives.

Elinor Guggenheimer

Elinor Guggenheimer first toured New York City day nurseries as a member of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies during the 1930s. Horrified by what she saw, Guggenheimer began a lifelong crusade for improved and standardized child care facilities across the country, in addition to her work promoting women in public office.
