Ludi Simpson

Ludi Simpson lives in Bradford, UK, and is a Professor of Population Studies at the University of Manchester, UK, with written contributions to the demography of ethnicity and the taking of censuses. He has translated from German several short stories by his aunt Ursula Kuczynski (under her pen-name Ruth Werner), and articles about her, to contribute to a planned anthology of her writing. He supported the development of the biography by John Green, A Political Family: The Kuczynskis, Fascism, Espionage and The Cold War (London: Routledge, 2017).

Ursula Kuczynski (Ruth Werner)

Operating under at least five different names in the course of her career, Ruth Werner (a pen name) was a singularly accomplished spy, whose espionage activities spanned some fifteen years, from 1931 to 1946. Twice awarded the order of the Red Banner, the highest Soviet military decoration, Werner also held the rank of colonel in the Red Army.
