Susanne A. Shavelson is assistant director of the Institute for Informal Jewish Education at Brandeis University. She received her Ph.D. in American culture from the University of Michigan, with a dissertation on “From Amerike to America: Language and Identity in the Yiddish and English Autobiographies of Jewish Immigrant Women.” Shavelson has an M.A. in American culture from the University of Michigan and a B.A. in English and American studies from Tufts University. Her areas of specialization include Jewish-American history, literature and culture since 1881 and the experience of Jewish women in America.
