Avital Campbell Hochstein

Avital Campbell Hochstein is currently doing graduate work in Talmudic literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She is a research fellow at the Hartman Institute. She teaches adult education focusing mainly on teaching Talmud. Among the institutions in which she has taught are Pardes, Hartman and Kolot.

Tannaitic Literature, Inclusion of Women

Midrashic reading of verses often involves the question of whether or not women were included in the verses. The language used (structure of verbs, prepositions, other parts of speech) often indicates the particular interpreter’s opinions concerning women.
