Gila Fatran

Gila Fatran received her Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her thesis was published in book form under the title Struggle for Survival: Leadership of Slovakian Jews in the Holocaust, 1938–1944 (Hebrew, 1992). A second work, on Slovakian Jewish leadership in the nineteenth century, is due to be published. She has also written entries on Czech and Slovak “Righteous among the Nations” for Yad Vashem, where she is a member of the “Righteous among the Nations” Committee. She is also on the editorial board of Yalkut Moreshet.

Gisi Fleischmann was a steadfast and brave fighter in the underground resistance to Nazism during World War II. Many times, she refused to escape Slovakia to safety and instead chose to stay and fight for her people to the bitter end.
