Sara Bender received her doctoral degree from the Institute of Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1994. Her thesis, on the Jews of Bialystok during World War II, appeared in 1997 under the title Facing Death (Hebrew) and she has also published numerous articles on Holocaust-related topics. She edited Yad Vashem’s Encyclopedia of Righteous Gentiles and is the editor of Dapim, an interdisciplinary periodical on Holocaust research, published by the University of Haifa, where she has taught in the department of Jewish History since 1998.
