Ruth Bachi Kolodny

Ruth Bachi (Kolodny) is a writer and journalist who received her M.A. in Hebrew and English Literature from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1967. Her biographies of women who played a decisive part in the history of Zionism include Russian Roulette (the life of Mania Wilbushevitch Shochat in Russia), Olga (The life of Olga Belkind Hankin), The Josephine File (The story of the A.T.S.) and Let Me in Under Your Wing (The Life of Ira Yan). As a broadcaster at Kol Israel (The Voice of Israel), she has made numerous documentaries. In 1999 Bachi Kolodny was awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize for writers.

Malka Kolodny

Malka Fisz Kolodny served as one of the first teachers in pre-State Palestine. She taught subjects ranging from basic literacy to chemistry and biology and encouraged, counselled, and supported her students, staying in touch with them for years.

Ira Jan

Ira Jan, a painter and writer, was the first Hebrew artist in pre-State Palestine. Born in Kishinev,  Jan graduated from the Moscow Art Academy and traveled Europe before immigrating to Palestine in 1908. Known for her love affair with Chaim Nachman Bialik, she immigrated to Jerusalem in 1908, engaging in painting and teaching and publishing her stories in a number of periodicals in Palestine.
