Linda Cohn broke barriers in 1981 when she became one of the first female sportscasters in America. Cohn played ice hockey on the boys’ team at her high school before becoming the goalie for her college team at SUNY Oswego. She graduated in 1981 with a communications degree and became a sports anchor for WALK, the radio station in Patchogue, New York. After working for several local radio stations, she became America’s first full-time female sports anchor for a national radio station, anchoring WABC TalkRadio from 1987 to 1989. In 1988 she also began working as a TV anchor for SportsChannel America. In 1992 she joined ESPN’s SportsCenter, which became her long-time home. In 2008, she became the regular anchor for SportsCenter’s morning program and also published Cohn-Head: A No-Holds-Barred Account of Breaking into the Boys’ Club. In 2016, Cohn hosted her 5,000th edition of SportsCenter. As of 2024, she has hosted more episodes of SportsCenter than any other anchor and hosts both an afternoon program on SportsCenter and a podcast, Listen Closely to Linda Cohn.
