Veteran's Day: Discover stories of Jewish women in the military

Today we honor our all the veterans who served their country, past, present, and future. Dive into the treasure trove of stories about Jewish women in the military on jwa.org and explore the unique challenges these veterans faced both as Jews and as women serving their country.

Start with JWA's exhibit on Jewish Women in the Military, showcasing the different roles that Jewish women have played in the military over the last 150 years as nurses, members of the WAAC and WAC, navy seals and marines, airwomen, and chaplains.

Meet Amy Sheridan, the first American Jewish woman pilot in the U.S. Army, who unexpectedly dropped in to JWA one day for an interview. Read and watch videos of Amy telling stories about what it was like to be a woman flying in a man's world.

Discover the story of the "Top Secret Rosies," the women (many of whom were Jewish) called on to be "human computers" during World War II. These women did the calculations for ballistic projections and programmed the first electronic computer, which would be used to calculate the projections for the hydrogen bomb.

And take your time browsing JWA's collection of photos from World War II on Flickr Commons depicting Jewish servicewomen home and abroad, at work and at play.
